Patrons award 2 Casola Prizes at Annual Ferragosto
Three dozen members and guests were on hand at the Patrons annual Ferragosto held at the Zagat rated Sapori Restaurant in Marina del Rey, on Sunday, Aug. 19. As has been the practice for many years the Patrons award their ‘Casola Prize’ during this event. This year Patrons President, Paul Romano, awarded two Casola Prizes, totaling $ 5,000, to UCLA - Ph.D. Italian Literature & Language candidates, Ms. Marianna Nespoli and Ms. Kelly Roso. Also on hand for the ceremony and accepting on behalf of Ms. Nespoli was 2017’s Casola winner, Mr. Joseph Tumolo, (UCLA Ph.D, candidate) as Ms. Nespoli remained in Italy after she and Ms. Roso completed presentations at a Sardegna, Italy conference.
Using the latest in modern technology, guests were treated to a video of Ms. Nespoli (from her home town near Bologna) accepting the Casola Prize.
A sumptuous luncheon of fresh salads, chicken and Dover sole with all the trimmings, elegantly prepared by owner Stefano Baccinella’s staff, ending with everyone’s favorite - home made Tiramisu.
Guests selected wonderful raffle prizes donated by many members which made for another successful Ferragosto event. (See photo gallery for event photos).
