Thirty PIC members and special academic guests attended the Patrons of Italian Culture 2025 Ferragosto event, held at the Urban Press Winery in Burbank, on Sunday Aug. 10, as reported by Paul Romano, Patrons President.
A wonderful spring 3 course luncheon was made even more enjoyable on the private terrace provided. This new venue was made special by the work of Mr. Kevin Rockway, special events manager at Raymond house, whose staff catered to every detail of the afternoon. We hope to make Raymond House a regular venue for PIC events, reports Romano.
Two of our three Casola winners of 2026 were in Italy as part of their UCLA Doctoral studies and research. Just returned from Rome for the event, Dr. Thomas Harrison, Chair Emeritus of UCLA's Italian studies Dept. gave members an overview of the work of the two Ph.C's Giacomo Frazzetta and Filippo Lugnan and the importance of a Casola Prize to their continued research.
The third Casola Prize was awarded to Ms. Chiara Mc William, of Univ. of San Diego who will graduate this December. Her nonna accompanied her for the award ceremony. Chiara's professors at U.S.D. sent regards and congratulations to PIC members and their outstanding student. Visit the PIC website to read all the winners letters of thanks.
Planning is now underway for the Annual Christmas gala which will take place on Saturday afternoon, Dec, 5. More information will be available on the PIC website under the Events tab.
