President's Letter

January 2025

2024 was a successful year for the Patrons who enjoyed our 'Annual Member's only' spring Getty Villa tour and luncheon with Dr. Sara Cole. Applications for our 2024 Casola Prize and High School grant programs also increased. At our August Ferragosto, held at Locana Positano in Marina del Rey, PIC awarded two Casola Prizes of $2,500 each and awarded 3 significant H.S. senior grants. The scholarships awarded in 2025 totaled $6,500, bringing our scholarship award total to more $42,000.

Our Christmas Gala was held Dec. 7 at the De Pietro estate in La Canada-Flintridge. A piano recital was performed by 2022 Casola prize winner, Mr. Davide Di Rienzo, UCLA's Ph.C master pianist, who performed a medley of classic music. A catered luncheon was enjoyed by all members & guests. News articles and event photos are always available on the Patron's website, picla.org

Additional charitable contributions were made in 2024 with donations of $12,600 from the John A. Cariello Charitable Trust & $5,300 from the Zuber Charitable Trust. These funds were added to the existing Casola Prize endowment and will add to the scholarships available in 2025. Many thanks to Mr. John Privitelli for his assistance in this effort.

Our annual 2025 spring Getty Villa 'members only' luncheon and tour will be held on Sun. Feb. 23, led once again by Dr. Sara Cole, Ph.D. Reservations for this limited event can be made via the PIC website or by contacting Mrs. Barbera.

Applications for the 2025 Casola Prize and our High School Senior grants will be posted to the PIC website by early February. All eligible university students can download the Casola application form and must complete the mail-in process by the April 30 deadline. High school seniors can also apply for grants via the website forms.
