Tirty members and guests attended the Patrons of Italian Culture's annual Christmas luncheon held at the 'hilltop' estate of Mr. & Mrs. Robert De Pietro, on Sunday Dec. 7, as reported by Paul Romano, Patrons President.
Catering was provided by East Side Market with a fine selection of luncheon entrees, and members enjoyed selected Italian wines from Tuscany and the Alto Adige.
Special guest, Dr. Thomas Harrison, Chair Emeritus of UCLA's Italian Studies Dept. gave a wonderful thank you to the members for the unwavering support and Casola Prize scholarships awarded to so many of UCLA's Italian American scholars, including 6 Ph.D. winners.
A special piano recital was performed by 2022 Casola winner, UCLA's Ph.C. Davide Di Rienzo, who just returned from a summer Italy concert tour. Mr. Di Rienzo's recital included several pieces by Bach, Respighi and Liszt. Members were in awe of this acclaimed concert pianist with a standing ovation at the conclusion of his recital. Davide has promised to perform again for the PIC.
